In Greek mythology, Ipotanes were a race of half-horse, half-humans, unlike the satyrs, who were half-goat.
The typical Ipotane looked overall human, but had the legs, hindquarters, tail, and ears of a horse. However, some had humanlike rather than horselike legs (compare with early Centaurs, whose front legs were often humanlike). They're apparently incredibly fast runners, sue to their horse legs.
Others say the ipotane is like a Satyr, a standing man with the bottom half as a horse, unlike centaurs who have the head and chest of a man on a horse's body.
